WESCO International’s CSC Announces Agreement to Distribute Corning MobileAccess In-Building Cellular Solutions for Healthcare Facilities

Pittsburgh, P.A. – WESCO International, Inc. (NYSE: WCC), a leading global provider of electrical, industrial, communications, security, MRO/OEM products, construction materials, advanced supply chain management and logistics services has announced its operating subsidiary, CSC, has entered into a distribution agreement with Corning MobileAccess, part of Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE: GLW) Telecommunications segment. The WESCO Communications organization will now distribute the full product line of distributed antenna systems (DAS) from Corning MobileAccess, enabling healthcare facilities to dramatically improve indoor cellular coverage.

Effective wireless applications, particularly on smartphones and tablets, are instrumental for healthcare facilities as they seek to improve information flow, patient care, satisfaction and overall operational efficiency. Designed to work with all major carriers, WESCO has teamed up with Corning MobileAccess to help leading healthcare providers significantly reduce dropped calls indoors and to increase data speed transmission rates to smartphones and portable devices.

“WESCO’s primary focus is offering customers a broad portfolio of high-quality solutions and providing best-in-class service. Our expanding healthcare offering and relationship with Corning MobileAccess solutions is notable. Together, we provide an outstanding combination of leading product and service solutions to leading healthcare institutions across the nation,” said David Bemoras, group vice president of WESCO and business leader for Communications and Security product offerings.

The Corning MobileAccess portfolio provides a complete line of active DAS solutions which work in concert with Corning’s fiber infrastructure solutions. The combined portfolio provides solutions that scale for any environment; from a single service in a small building all the way up to multiple services across an entire campus. One innovative product line, MobileAccess VE, allows healthcare facilities to leverage their existing network cabling infrastructure to transport cellular services without impacting the performance of the local area network. This minimizes disruption during installation and delivers seamless coverage to the building’s employees, patients and guests.

“With WESCO distributing our solutions, we enhance our ability to serve healthcare facilities across the country. In turn, WESCO expands its in-building cellular offerings by carrying and supporting our industry leading solutions,” said Darlene Braunschweig, senior vice president of Global Sales, Corning MobileAccess.

Does this solution require new cable drops to operate, or does it entirely run on existing infrastructure? Also, is it truly carrier neutral?

    John E.,

The MobileAccessVE is works over existing structured cabling solutions. It works with both LAN and WLAN installations. It is possible a new drop may be required if there isn’t an existing drop where service is required.

MobileAccessVE can be utilized in a true neutral- carrier deployment.
