We truly live in a global economy. Can you even imagine something like this happening 30 years ago?

It DID happen about 30 years ago, back in the early to mid 80’s. At the time I was with a company producing teflon communication cable and our FEP supplies were very limited and we were allocated on a weekly basis from DuPont. There had been a fire in a DuPont FEP plant that took it off line. This is where the “2×2″ and “3×1″ cables came from – manufacturers were stretching their FEP supplies as much as they could and only using FEP on the pairs carrying data. It was an ugly time. History does have a way of repeating itself.

As I know some big manufactures have the pattern for 2+2 & 3+1 plenum cable, but why we still can see other suppliers produce these types cable? Aren’t they violate those patterns?

now is the time to educate the AHJs that most of the plenum requirements are not plenum at all. Most AHJs don’t know the actual purpose of plenum rated cable.
